Crow’s Feet: What Are They And How To Reduce Their Appearance?

Your skin goes through gradual changes as you age. After the 30s, some parts of the face begin to show signs of aging, especially near the eye area. Fine lines, wrinkles, under-eye discoloration, thinning lashes, and brows are a few well-known skin aging signs. Apart from this, some people may also experience crow’s feet. These are little wrinkles or lines spreading out from the eye corner.

Typically, crow’s feet occur over time due to tiny muscle contractions that happen when you make facial expressions. There are two different types of wrinkles: static and dynamic. Static wrinkles appear even if your face is at rest. On the other hand, dynamic wrinkles are visible during muscle contraction, like wrinkles around the eyes when you are smiling. Topical Creams

You can easily find over-the-counter topical creams to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, consult your doctor before using any cream. Generally, Tretinoin (Retin-A) is used to reduce the visibility of lines as it stimulates the new skin cell. You can also look for anti-aging moisturizers offering similar results. Its results are generally visible within 24 weeks.

Botulinum toxin (Botox)

Botox is a popular treatment used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. It is especially effective for crow’s feet caused by repetitive muscle contractions. Basically, botulinum toxin (Botox) is injected into the wrinkled area using a small needle. The experts offering Botox at La Fontaine med spa opines that it is a safe treatment to get a youthful appearance. The toxin prevents the muscles around the injected area from contracting; thus, it helps in reducing their appearance. It is generally effective for people with dynamic wrinkles.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers, better known as soft-tissue fillers, are also effective for treating eye wrinkles. Fillers may include Juvederm, Restylane, Belote, Radiesse, or Sculptra. Similar to Botox, fillers are also injected directly into the affected area using a small needle. Every filler has a different component; therefore, it is essential to consult the healthcare provider to select the filler depending upon your skin type.

Dermal fillers are effective for fighting the static crow’s feet. Its effect may last from 3 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler used.

How To Conceal Crow’s Feet?

In addition to the treatment methods given above, you can also consider concealing the wrinkles. Here’s how:

  • Use moisturizing eye cream before applying any makeup in the morning or night.
  • Use a silicone-based primer to fill the creases and create a smooth appearance.
  • Do not apply heavy layer foundation or conceal. It might make their appearance pronounced.
  • Make sure to blend the foundation properly for medium to light coverage.
  • Avoid using loose powder as it might settle over the wrinkles.
  • Use bold lipstick and highlighter to draw the attention away from the eyes. Keep the eye makeup minimal.

Wrapping It All Up

Following a good skincare routine can help minimize the appearance of aging signs to some extent. But if you want to reverse the signs, give a try to the treatment option given above and get younger-looking skin.
