Yesterday, I downloaded a digital book from my local library’s online app – “Simply Living Well by Julia Watkin”. After reading the book (yes, I read the whole book in one go and my phone is full of various screenshots now that I am going to try), I had to bring this simple yet effective homemade face scrub recipe to this blog. The book is inspired by Julia’s blog “Simply Living Well†and is a real inspirational guide to create a natural, low-waste home. Check out her blog and Instagram for more.

Julia’s homemade face scrub is made of familiar and inexpensive ingredients that are available in our kitchen.  From Julia’s excerpt,

Although scrubs can be made with a variety of exfoliants such as sugar, salt, and baking soda, I like to use a base of oatmeal, which has been used for thousands of years to gently cleanse, exfoliate, heal, and moisturize the skin. It’s safe for all skin types and is excellent at soothing sensitive skin.

How to Make Oatmeal Face Scrub

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ cup of raw almonds
  • 2 tbsp dried chamomile or lavender buds (optional)
  • Jojoba or sweet almond oil
  • Lavender essential oil

Grind the oats, almonds, and herbs in a food processor until finely ground. Sift through a mesh screen to remove large pieces and store the powder in a sealed glass jar until ready to use.

How to apply – Combine 1 tbsp of oil and 1 drop of lavender essential oil in a bowl and mix well. Add 2 tbsp of the powder to the bowl and mix well to create a thick, spreadable paste. Massage the paste onto the face using gentle, circular motions, then rinse with lukewarm water.
